Founded in 1905 as The British Undertakers’ Association, The National Association of Funeral Directors, as it has been known since 1935, is one of a number of organizations that has appeared over the last three hundred years to represent those responsible for managing the disposal of the dead.

The first such institution The Upholders Company emerged in the early eighteenth century and was closely followed by The United Company of Undertakers. However, the need for a national organization became apparent during the nineteenth century. This history traces the events leading up to the founding of the British Undertakers’ Association.

The NAFD is the country’s leading funeral trade association and its members, who are required to comply with a strict Code of Practice, conduct four out of every five funerals in the UK.

As one of the UK’s leading funeral plan providers, we work with over 800 funeral directing firms across the country, providing a safe home for funeral plan pre-payment funds. Some of the funeral directors we work with offer Perfect Choice Funeral Plans and others offer their own-branded funeral plans. Both options are provided and administered by Ecclesiastical Planning Services.

We are the preferred funeral plan provider of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) for independent firms. The NAFD is a recognised trade association which has been supporting funeral directing businesses since 1905.

This means you can be sure that your funeral will be carried out to the highest possible standards when the time comes.
